At the World Craft Council Asia Pacific Regional Assembly at Kuala Lumpur recently a weaver from Malaysia had this to say:

Malaysia has a famous woven sarong called the “sonket”. This is pretty similar to any of our weaves with a little zari, except the motifs are different. Indian weavers have started weaving them and they are now sold in Malaysia! Now you can get only Indian woven sonkets!
